Civic Coalition for Minority Affairs to Honor 90 African and African-American Students
The Civic Coalition for Minority Affairs will honor 90 African and African-American students in its 24th annual Awards Ceremony at 7 p.m. on tonight, Thu, May 5 in the main auditorium of the Career Center. (816 South Walter Reed Dr.)
The key-note speaker for the occasion will be Dr. Kristi Murphy, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. Murphy has been the Director of Special Education, Parent Resource Center, SEPTA, ASEAC. She began advocating for the educational needs of children through various leadership roles and positions at the school and county-wide levels.
The Civic Coalition for Minority Affairs is a council of representatives from civic, religious and social organizations of Northern Virginia. Committed to excellence in education, the group endeavors to foster high academic achievement through its annual awards ceremony honoring high achieving African and African-American students in 5th, 8th and 11th grades in the Arlington Public Schools.
Member organizations include: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., The Ethiopian Community Development Council, Inc., Langston-Brown Civic Association, Lomax A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt Salvation Baptist Church, Mt Zion Baptist Church and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Our Lady Queen of Peace.
