Superintendent Dr. Pat Murphy summarized the progress that has been made on the 2011-17 Strategic Plan at last night’s meeting. This was the final update in series of reports to the Board.
Murphy reported on gains APS has made identifying what each student needs to be successful. He noted that three key factors in student success include ensuring high quality instruction; offering multiple, personalized paths to success for students; and providing healthy and safe spaces for enhanced learning. The presentation featured video interviews with current APS students who shared their perspectives about their experiences at APS and what they have valued in their educational journey. Murphy highlighted areas of focus that will be included as part of next year’s budget to ensure that all students continue to receive individualized support and attention to ensure their academic success. He noted that this needs to continue to be a hallmark for Arlington even though APS enrollment continues to grow significantly.
