 School Board Approves FY17-26 Capital Improvement Plan Framework

The Arlington School Board approved the framework for the FY 2017-26 Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) framework at last night’s meeting.

The framework contains a schedule and timeline for community engagement, and includes a summary of the enrollment projections that will inform the development of the CIP. The framework also incorporates a list of guiding questions for elementary, middle, and high school capacity needs.

The Board also approved the appointment of Julie Cantor as .5 Assistant Principal at Washington-Lee High School.

Monitoring Items

  • ACI Mid-Year Status Report – Staff updated the Board on implementation of the Advisory Council on Instruction (ACI) recommendations from the 2014-15 school year. The complete list of recommendations and their status is available online.
  • Strategic Plan Progress Report #2 – In the second of four progress reports on the Strategic Plan, staff provided an update on Goals 3 & 4: Recruiting, retaining and developing high quality staff and providing optimal learning environments. Read the full report here.

  • Charge to the Whole Child Working Group – The Board considered the charge for the new Whole Child Working Group which will help APS ensure that each child is healthy, safe, supported, academically engaged, and challenged by developing a framework that will inform decision‐making related to meeting the needs of the whole child. The Group’s work will serve as groundwork for the development of future School Board priorities and the next APS strategic plan. The full charge is available online.
  • Appointment of Chair of the Whole Child Working Group - The School Board discussed the appointment of Heather Sauve as Chair of the new Whole Child Working Group.

Because of inclement weather, the School Board’s recognition of the winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be rescheduled at a later meeting.
