Catharina Genove, Principal

Email: catharina.genove@apsva.us
I've been an educational leader for over 20 years. I have served as a classroom teacher, an instructional leader, and assistant principal/principal at a variety of public schools in Florida, Maryland and Virginia. In 2012, I happily joined Arlington Public Schools as the Assistant Principal for Drew Model School.  In 2015, I became the Principal for Drew Model School.  My previous experience at a Montessori Charter School in Fredrick, MD, helped me earn the role as the Principal of a school with a strong Montessori Program.  I have a Masters Degree in Montessori and Elementary Education with an Ed.S in Administration.  I'm very excited to be embarking on my fourth year at Drew and look forward to another wonderful school year.

Wendy Pilch, Assistant Principal

I have been an educator in the Arlington County Public Schools for the past 15 years. I joined APS after graduating from the University of Virginia, where I received a Master's Degree in Teaching. I have been an elementary school classroom teacher, a Title I reading teacher, a Parent Outreach coordinator, and the Title I Supervisor in the Arlington Public School District. During my years in the classroom, I was trained in Reading Recovery and taught several literacy courses for teachers in Arlington County. I received National Board Certified certification in 2003 and was honored by The University of Virginia Curry School as a Teacher of Excellence. I completed my administrative endorsement through George Mason University in 2006.  I live in Arlington with my husband and two children, Lilly (8) and Eli (6).

Robert Hanson, Assistant Principal

I have 18 years of experience as an educator, with the last three years at Williamsburg Middle School as Assistant Principal.  I worked previously as a history teacher, alternative education coordinator, counselor and dean of students, primarily for Fairfax County Public Schools.  In addition to my commitment to improving student learning, I have demonstrated strong leadership and interpersonal skills.   My middle school experience will be particularly helpful to support students in the upper grades at Drew and to prepare them for the transition to secondary school.
